The BPI (formerly known as British Phonographic Industry) represents the British record industry. It provides protection, promotion, representation and information for its member companies. Its membership comprises over 450 music companies including the four 'majors', manufacturers, distributors and hundreds of independent labels, representing over 90% of the UK's recorded music market.
When founded in 1973, its principal aim was to fight music piracy but its remit has since expanded. Protection remains a priority with its anti-piracy unit and legal teams working tirelessly on and offline to protect the rights of all UK copyright owners, and with sister company the BRIT Awards, and charity the BRIT trust, the BPI represents and promotes the UK recording industry to the public sector and media.
The BPI provides labels with important services too - such as extensive market research services and training seminars. International support is also available to independents through trade fairs Midem and Popkomm and its trade missions to LA and Tokyo.

Over 200 companies in the UK benefit from membership of ISPA.
Policies are agreed by the ISPA Council, a body of up to ten people selected from and representing the various interests of the membership. The Council is served by a secretariat.
ISPA UK was instrumental in establishing EuroISPA, a European federation of Internet Services Providers' Associations. EuroISPA voices ISPs concerns to politicians and officials at European Union level and influences EU Internet policies.
